Today was DOG PARK DAY which is one of the greatest holidays ever invented. The gates opened and suddenly there were friends everywhere. Dogs! Humans! Smells! Dirt! One plastic bag tumbling majestically across the parking lot that I would have absolutely befriended if my human had not cruelly redirected me toward “the entrance.”
The moment I got inside, everyone started noticing me. Humans kept pointing and smiling and saying things like “wow, look at that dog!” and “she’s beautiful!” which was very kind and also correct. One little kid asked if I was a horse, which honestly happens a lot, and another human asked my human what kind of dog I was because apparently borzoi are “rare.” I do not know what “rare” means, but everyone kept looking delighted to see me, so I assume it means “excellent.”
I made many new friends immediately. There was a golden retriever who ran with me at top speed for approximately thirty seconds before collapsing dramatically into the grass. There was a tiny fluffy dog who barked at my knees with tremendous confidence. There was also a human with excellent ear scratching technique who told me I was “the most elegant dog” they had ever seen while I was actively covered in dirt.
At one point, I spotted a leaf blowing across the park and became briefly convinced it wanted to play with me specifically.
My human laughed a lot today. People kept stopping to talk to her because of me, and every time she smiled I got even happier, which made my tail go faster, which made everything better. I think the dog park might actually just be a giant friendship field where everyone arrives to admire each other and occasionally eat mulch.
I would like to go back immediately.
With speed, enthusiasm, and at least six new best friends,
Ms. Frizz
